The Subtle Art of Saying No

Many times, you are unable to say no at work to your boss, colleague, or even your client. This (frustration) shows up as anger with your dear ones. You may end up hurting them (dear ones) or hurt yourself. It may also be a good idea to say yes, but when you are unable to say no.
When your boss says I want this done like NOW. Then get back saying, I have these priorities, and which one should I drop to take up the new task. In all probability, your boss is going to say – Do this new task later.
You may encounter a similar situation with your client. The client has an expectation that you think is unreasonable. One way of saying no would be – yes, I can certainly deliver, but it may cost you 2x. In all probability, the client may say – Please deliver as per the original spec or schedule!
In both cases, you have said yes, but in fact, you have said no!
Startups face such business situations. You need to first survive and then thrive. In such a scenario, it is better to stay focused and dig deep into opportunities where you are sure of getting to fruition. Startups have limited resources; hence, it is ok to politely say no to opportunities where you are not sure. Alternatively, you can use the yes but approach.
By politely saying no (when you need to), you gain the respect of the person to whom you said no. It doesn’t hurt them. You are more cheerful at home, and there is a positive atmosphere all around.
Have a better work-life balance. Learn the say no(when needed).
